As I’m reading Atomic Habits by James Clear, I’ve come across a few golden nuggets that stood out to me, and that I want to share them with you.
If you’re or want to become a solopreneur, especially one selling digital products or other people’s digital products, developing positive habits is essential to becoming your best self and achieving your goals.
But this often requires changing some of the things you’re currently doing and sometimes unlearning bad habits.

Progress Requires Identity Shifts
You only believe in the identity you have now because you’ve proven it to yourself over time.
Building new habits is the process of becoming your future self.
You become what you do consistently.
For example, if you’ve been struggling to make a consistent $3K or more per month as a solopreneur, ask yourself, “How can I become someone who consistently generates $3K more per month?” rather than focusing solely on the result.
Success comes from adopting the identity of someone who takes consistent, reliable action, whether it’s creating engaging content, connecting with the right people, or refining your sales process.
The Power of Small Improvements
Small improvements over time lead to identity changes.
Here are two key steps I read yesterday that are key to developing a new identity (and becoming the best version of yourself):
- Decide the type of person you want to be.
- Prove it to yourself with small wins.
For example, if your goal is to earn $3K more per month selling digital products, first ask yourself, “What would a successful digital creator or solopreneur do to consistently achieve this?”
Then take small steps each day that align with this identity.
Identity-Based Goals vs. Outcome-Based Goals
Let’s use a specific example:
Instead of asking, “How can I make $3K more per month?” ask, “How can I become the type of person who consistently grows my income as a solopreneur?”
By shifting your mindset to focus on becoming rather than just achieving, you’ll take actions that lead to long-term success, like building high-quality relationships with your audience, improving your content, and offering valuable solutions, whether it’s through your own digital products, affiliate marketing or a combination of both.
Ask yourself:
- What would a successful solopreneur do?
- What would a thriving digital creator do?
- What would someone who excels at generating consistent online income do?
By answering these questions and taking small steps each day, you’ll reinforce the identity that will naturally bring you closer to your goals.
It’s about becoming the type of person who consistently takes the right actions.
The focus should always be on becoming the type of person who achieves what you want, not just getting a specific result.
And this applies to any area of your life that you want to improve.
Move, have courage, and be consistent.
